All-Ireland Underage Success

The club’s underage riders had a very successful All-Ireland Youth Championship which was held in Tyrone this weekend. The highlight of the weekend was Michael O’Loughlin’s victory in the U13 Road Race Championship. Michael attacked on the last lap to solo to victory with a winning margin of 10 seconds over his rivals. Sunday’s Road Race victory impressively added to the two bronze medals that he collected on the Saturday in both the Time Trial and Criterium.
In the U15 Road Race Cian Dwyer rode impressively to the claim a bronze medal with Sean Hahessy narrowly missing out on a medal in the U15 Time Trial placing in 4th.

Charity Fundraising Cycle in Carrick

As many club members are aware, our club PRO, Bobby Power, has completed a number of charity fundraising cycles to Lourdes in recent years. The charity in question is Irish Pilgrimage Trust, a national organisation that takes 500 children with special needs to Lourdes each Easter, and also caters for them in their respite centre in Clarinbridge, Co. Galway all year round. Many children from Carrick and the surrounding areas have benefited over the years, with seven children from the town travelling to Lourdes in 2010.

Bike Fitting Session!

On the 25th of September 2010, Bike Fitting Ireland will be coming to Carrick-on-Suir to offer its services to cyclists from the area. This expert service has come in for much praise by cyclists throughout the country as well as from members within our own club who have previously availed of the service. The service will be available to local cyclists at a reduced rate of €65 and those who are interested are invited to contact Joe Hahessy who is responsible for bringing this specialist service to the area.

Four in a row for Michael!

Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers youth rider Michael O’Loughlin added another impressive win to his 2010 season by claiming the gold medal in the Community Games Cycling Final, held in Athlone, Co. Westmeath over the weekend. Micheal made an aggressive start to the event attacking solo on the opening lap of five and maintained his advantage all the way to the finish line to claim his fourth Community Games Cycling Gold medal in a row. Michael essentially donminated the race from start to finish as he claimed all of the events hot spot sprints and came home with a 150m advantage over limerick’s Mark O’Callaghan and William O’Connor from Kerry.

Michael O’ Loughlin Wins Mayo International Youth Tour

Tour de France Sweep Results

Overall winner Alberto Contador was drawn by Joe Mulcair of Sepam, Clonmel. He’s €200 richer this morning. Points winner Alessandro Petacchi was drawn by Eddie Keating. Ray Cullen drew the King of the Mountains Anthony Charteau, and Mark O’ Mahony drew Adriano Malori, the Lanterne Rouge who finished 4 hours 27 minutes and 3 seconds behind Contador.
Eddie, Ray and Mark get €75 each. Many thanks to everybody who supported our fundraising draw. The money raised will help to fund our end of season activities which include the Suir Valley 3 Day, Mayo Youth Tour and National Youth Championships in Coalisland, Co. Tyrone.
