Cycling Ireland Awards

By December 31, 2008 Club News

Many thanks to all of those who voted for our club members in the Cycling Ireland Membership Awards. The trip to Sneem was worth making for Sam Bennett who received two awards and a bursary, plus his European Championships prize money. He won the award of Junior Cyclist of the Year and also the Best International Performance of 2008. Each year, the Cycling Ireland Board awards a bursary to an outstanding young cyclist. Sam was this year’s recipient.

Martin O’ Loughlin was present to receive the Best Male Vet of 2008 award in addition to the four All-Ireland gold medals he won in the year. On his return from Sneem, he checked into hospital for a hernia operation.

Rory Wyley received a silver from the All-Ireland Vets roads race, a bronze from the time trial and two gold team medals. Sean McIlroy was on hand to receive no less than his eleventh All-Ireland medal. Congratulations to all.
