The weather was fantastic and our results matched it on the glorious June Bank Holiday weekend. Two wins for Rory Wyley and three for Michael O’ Loughlin were our highlights.

Patrickswell, Killybegs, Camross, Broadford… Our riders certainly got around over the weekend. Patrickswell was the venue on Thursday night for the Munster Time Trial Championships. Sean Hahessy put in a great performance to take the silver Under 14 medal. Michael O’ Loughlin took gold in the Under 12.

On Friday night, Martin O’ Loughlin finished 10th in the first stage of Ras Dhun na nGall in Killybegs, on the same time as the winner Paul Mulligan. Saturday morning saw the Bruckless time trial. The wind blew up as the morning progressed, so Martin lost 21 seconds to the stage winner Dane Dunlop. The after noon stage saw him bounce back to take 3rd, moving up to 4th overall, with talented junior Marcus Christie in yellow. Martin gave Marcus a dig out on the Sunday to keep the G.C. unchanged at the end.

Meanwhile, in Camross, Co. Wexford, Rory Wyley was making life hard for the competition in the Frank O’ Rourke Memorial Race. He won the combined event, outsprinting Andre Engemann. Michael recorede win number two in the Under 12 race. Sean Hahessy was 3rd under 14, and John Skehan was 6th under 16.

Onto Broadford, Co. Limerick on Monday. Michael got the action going with a win in the under 12 Munster Road Race Championships. The Senior/Vets Race was on a savage course with a 5km climb to be tackled twice. Rory got away with Colm Cassidy (Usher IRC)  and Michael Hennessy (Fermoy) to build up a 3 minute advantage. Cassidy was dropped on the second ascent. Rory and Hennessy were both winners as they were technically in different races…

Martin O’ Loughlin attacked on the climb and rode with Denis Lynch and Daniel Kirwan to take the Vets silver medal on his fourth consecutive day of racing. Simon Ryan rode a fantastic race to take the silver junior medal.
