TOMMY SHEEHAN MEMORIAL

By June 30, 2009 Club News

Carrick Cabs have again agreed to sponsor the annual Tommy Sheehan Memorial race on Sunday next, July 5th, and this is a major boost to the event which is renowned as one of the highlights of the Irish cycling calendar. Unfortunately last year’s winner of the senior race, Sam Bennett, is away on international duty and will be unable to defend his title, but Carrick Wheelers have strength in debt and will be pushing hard to get a victory in some if not all the events.
There will be a full programme of five races all starting at St. Mollerans GAA club in Carrickbeg and using the famous Kearney’s Road circuit. The under 12 and under 14 races start at 12.00 noon sharp, with the main senior race starting at 1.00pm, closely followed by the combined race for third cat seniors, veterans and ladies, and finally the under 16’s at approx 1.10pm. Parking and sign on is at the Carrick United FC clubhouse from 11.00am and with the holiday season just started, big crowds are expected for all the events. This should give us a great day’s racing, so why not come along and enjoy the free show and cheer on the local riders as they take on the best cyclists in the country.
