This weekend marks the sixth weekend before the Lacey Cup, which for most riders is the first race of their season. This weekend also marks the first weekend where intensity efforts will be brought into the Saturday morning training session. The plan is to meet at Wall’s Bar in Carrickbeg at 9:15 sharp Saturday morning, and head for Clonmel via the back road, and then onto Ballymacarbry, Dungarvan and back to Carrick. The first of the spin’s efforts will begin at Kilmacomma, at the far side of Clonmel. These efforts are in no way mandatory and there may well be a group riding steady behind those doing efforts at all times. All riders will regroup after every effort. The aim is to get between 25-30 minutes of intensity in throughout the spin. Club Coach Rory Wyley will be present so if you are unsure as to participate in these efforts (or indeed any aspect of your training) don’t hesitate to ask him. Martin O’Loughlin will also be on hand. There may be riders who choose to do an extra 45-60 minutes at the end of the spin eg. a lap of Fiddown or on to Owning and home by Faugheen and Lisadobber. So why not come along and get your serving of lactic acid?
Sunday’s club spin will once again leave SuperValu at 9:15 and will have a base goal of four hours, with at least one climb incorporated into the route eg. Newcastle, the Vee, Melleray or similar.
One more thing, any rider wishing to race either Rás Mumhan or the Gorey 3-Day is asked to contact Club Secretary Paul Lonergan as soon as possible.
