The present icy weather has cyclists all over Ireland training indoors. Martin O’ Loughlin has decided to run a turbo session on Thursday nights for January and February commencing on Thursday 14th January.
The sessions will be held in the Friary Church in Carrickbeg. Set-up is at 6.45pm with the 60 minute session starting promptly at 7pm. Participants need to bring their bike, turbo, heartrate monitor, water and a change of clothes. The church has toilets, but no showers. The entrance is through the graveyard opposite the Community Centre. The cost is 8 euro for adults and 5 euro for students and those unemployed.
Each week, there will be a different session, working on power, endurance, speed and sprinting. They will ramp up in intensity as participants get fitter and the season draws near. The turbo trainer is the most controllable way of training with no freewheeling, headwinds, tailwinds, etc
