On Sunday 18th April 2010 the annual Tommy Sheehan Memorial Cycle Race promoted by Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers takes place in Carrick-on-Suir. The club will be promoting races for both underage and senior riders, with a generous €1,000 prize fund. The race promotions will be as follows: ..Race 1:Race 1 will be for 1st and 2nd Category riders and will begin at 1.00pm. Prizes will be presented to the first eight riders and well as the prestigious Tommy Sheehan Memorial Trophy for the outright winner.The race will entail 4 laps of the Kearney’s Road circuit and will measure 65 miles in total. This race will be ideal preparation for any riders aiming to ride the upcoming Tour of Ulster and FBD Insurance Rás. Race 2:Race 2 will be held for 3rd Category riders and will begin at 1.05pm. Prizes will be presented to the first eight riders. The race will entail 3 laps of the Kearney’s Road circuit and will measure 50 miles in total. This race will be ideal preparation for any riders aiming to ride the upcoming Corkman 3-Day held over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Race 3:Race 3 will be a handicapped race for 4th Category riders and U16s, where the U16s will receive a small handicap over the 4th Category riders and prizes will be presented for the first eight riders over the line.This race will begin at 1.10pm and entail 2 laps of the Kearney’s Road circuit and will measure 34 miles in total. Race 4 (U14s):Race 4 will be held for riders under 14 yrs and will begin at 12.00pm approx. Race 5 (U12s):Race 5 will be held for riders under 12 yrs and will begin at 12.00pm approx. Sign on will be at the Carrick United Soccer Club dressing rooms, Coolnamuck Road, Carrickbeg, Carrick-on-Suir and will be open from 11.00am.Sign-on fee is €10 for seniors and €5 for underage.
