Corkman Stage 2 & 3 / Tour of Ulster Stage 2 & 3

By May 4, 2008 Race Reports

Dan Morrissey took a huge step towards retaining the Corkman title today. Martin O’Loughlin put in a massive effort in this mornings 4 mile time trial to finish an excellent 2nd in a time of 6:55, just 2 seconds behind the stage winner Michael Lucey. Former triathlete and recently minted “B” rider Cathal MacCarthy also had a great ride to finish in 3rd place with a time of 6:56.

In the evening stage, Martin O’Loughlin was able to get into an 8 man breakaway which proved to be the move of the day. Martin finished 6th on the stage but crucially moves into the overall lead by 2 seconds over Arklow’s Paul Kinch, Junior Charles Prendergast of Mayo is in 3rd at 6 seconds, local man Denis Lynch is 4th at 9 seconds, Clonmel hardman Danny Carroll is 5th at 11 seconds whilst Laurent Dumoulin rounds out the top 6. Best of luck defending the jersey in tomorrows final stage Martin !

In the underage ranks the Dan Morrissey riders continue to show good form with Eamonn Maher finishing 2nd in the U16 Category whilst Michael O’Loughlin and Dylan O’Brien finished 2nd and 3rd in the U12 category. You can’t beat good breeding!

Meanwhile in Ulster the comeback kid Joe Fenlon is mixing it with the cream of Irish Cycling and showing no signs of weakening. After 3 stages Joe is in 4th place overall 1:21 back with Rory Wyley a couple of minutes back in 13th (Rory leads the Vets category).

Good luck to all of our riders for Mondays stages.
