Charity Fundraising Cycle in Carrick

By August 19, 2010 Club News

As many club members are aware, our club PRO, Bobby Power, has completed a number of charity fundraising cycles to Lourdes in recent years. The charity in question is Irish Pilgrimage Trust, a national organisation that takes 500 children with special needs to Lourdes each Easter, and also caters for them in their respite centre in Clarinbridge, Co. Galway all year round. Many children from Carrick and the surrounding areas have benefited over the years, with seven children from the town travelling to Lourdes in 2010.

Irish Pilgrimage Trust is organised into county Groups around the country, and now the Tipperary and Waterford Groups are coming together to promote the first Premier Deise Cycle on Sunday Sept. 12th starting and finishing in Carrick. The cycle is over two routes, with a fairly flat 40 kilometre route through Ballyneale, Ballypatrick and Kilsheelan, while the 100 kilometre route will then continue on through Clonmel, Rathgormack and Kilmacthomas before returning to tour headquarters at the Swan GAA Centre at Fairgreen in Carrick. Sign-on is from 8.00 to 9.00 am, with cyclists free to leave from 9.00 to 9.30am. There will be refreshments provided on each route and again at the finish, and many club members have already agreed to help with organising the event on the day.

Of course the object of the exercise is to raise badly needed funds for the local groups, and so the entry fee is €50 or a sponsorship card with a minimum of €50. Sponsorship cards can be had by contacting Bobby on 087-7517861 or 051-641518. We appreciate that €50 is fairly steep, but maybe you know of someone that was helped by Irish Pilgrimage Trust at some stage, or else you just want to do your good deed for 2010! Either way, you surely know 10 people who will give you a fiver for a worthy cause, so please give Bobby a call a get that sponsorship card, we would really appreciate it.
