Carrick Wheelers would like to publicly thank Dan Morrissey Ireland Ltd. for their nine year sponsorship association with our club, which ended on the 31st December 2010. The partnership has enjoyed great success during their time together in terms of results, race promotions and through the general promotion of cycling in the South East of the country.
During this time together prestigious results in Ireland biggest bike race The FBD Rás were achieved. Such exciting results included Three Individual Stage Wins; King of the Mountains Overall Winner; County Team Winners; Two 1st Second Category Rider Overall Awards and many First County Rider Awards.
The younger members of our club also excelled in international events thanks to the support they received as members of Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers, winning the European Junior Points Race, International Junior Tour of Ireland and The Mayo Youth Tour.
As well as achieving great results in the international events our time together enjoyed a great deal of success on a national level too. Over one-hundred victories were achieved nationally including Three All-Ireland Veteran Gold’s, Six All-Ireland Veteran Team Gold’s, All-Ireland Junior Individual and Team Gold, All-Ireland Under-age Titles, National Time Trial Records, Munster RR and TT Titles, Overall victories in Rás Mumhan, Tour of Ulster, Rás Connemara and The Corkman 3-Day, Stages victories in our national stage races including Rás Mumhan, Tour of Ulster, Suir Valley 3-Day, Corkman 3-Day and Rás Conamara. Not mention all our great victories in national events from the Lacy Cup in Tralee to the Des Hanlon Memorial in Carlow.
As every club member will agree it is rewarding to have success in events, but it is also very satisfying to promote successful cycling events, something that Dan Morrissey Ireland Ltd and Carrick Wheelers did together very effectively. In 2010 alone, races such as the Carrick Wheelers Cup, The Tommy Sheehan Memorial, and the FBD Rás Stage 5 were promoted by Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers, while assisting with sportives such as The Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford and The Premier Deise Cycle. Getting young cyclists into cycle racing was something the Morrissey family always encouraged and supported, and our club through firstly our mountain bike leagues and then our summer road leagues played a vital part in getting young boys and girls onto their bikes and into our sport.
However all good things must come to an end, so a sincere thanks to our former sponsors Dan Morrissey Ireland Ltd. for their support over the last nine years, one must agree that cycling in Ireland was all the better because of their tremendous support for Carrick Wheelers CC.
