Beginners and Underage League Race 1

By May 12, 2008 Race Reports

The club’s Beginners and Underage League started this evening in brilliant sunshine in Faugheen. Fifteen boys and girls signed on and went for a familiarisation lap of the circuit under the guidance of John, Vinnie and Eamonn Maher.
They then lined up at one minute intervals for the 3.5km time trial. Clonmel’s Niall Dempsey set the early pace with a time of 7.34. Michael O’ Loughlin blasted through in 6.27 and held the lead for five minutes until Sean Donovan from Callan went 2 seconds faster riding one of our club bikes.
This time reigned supreme until the two ‘big guns’ Seamus Babington and John Skehan arrived. Seamus posted a 6.02 and John went even better to set a new course record of 5.53.
Caoimhe Kelly set the fastest time for the girls with 8.19 and Kellie O’ Donnell recorded 9.58.
Handicapper Bobby Power has learned a lot about the form of all of the riders, and John and Seamus will certainly have a lot of time to make up on the early starters next Monday night. However, they should have help from our 2007 league winner Eamonn Maher.
Thanks to all of the parents, stewards and officials who helped out on the night. Tell your friends and we’ll have more riders next week.

NOTE: All riders are reminded to return the three forms signed by their parents next week.
