On a night you wouldn’t put the proverbial cat out, 12 hardy souls braved the elements to put in epic cycling performances. Crehana National School provided the winners on the night with Eoin Smith first across the line and Michael O’ Loughlin taking the overall lead.
Eoin Smith led from the front in the wind and rain, followed by the impressive Kellie O’ Donnell racing on her brand new bike for the first time. Richard Dunphy broke clear of Niall Dempsey to take third place. Sean Hahessy sprinted clear of Michael O’ Loughlin to win the battle for 5th. David Healy rode impressively to take 7th, just ahead of Scott Bennett. John Skehan was the loneliest rider on the road, being a one-man scratch group, and finished 9th. Next to finish was last week’s winner Tomás Lacey. Caoimhe Kelly, who lost a minute when her chain came off, and Conal O’ Sullivan completed the finishers.
In the overall standings, Michael O’ Loughlin leads the table on 70 points with Tomás Lacey on 68 and Sean Hahessy and Richard Dunphy joint 3rd with 65 points. Kellie O’ Donnell is the first girl on 62 points, followed by Caoimhe Kelly on 59.
But, with 3 of the 5 events still to go, it’s very early to be predicting an overall winner. Handicapper Bobby Power will be adjusting the times again, so nobody can be ruled out at this stage.
We have no race next Monday (June Bank Holiday), so the action resumes in Faugheen on Monday 9th June.
