Ó Ceallacháin’s League Week 3 Results

By June 9, 2008 Race Reports

The sun shone brightly on the 18 participants in our beginners and underage league. At the end of a great evening’s racing, it’s all changed at the top of the leaderboard.

Girl power was in evidence tonight, with the top two spots on the podium filled by Caoimhe Kelly and newcomer Payton Redman. Payton was very unlucky to lose time when her shoelace wound around her pedal. Caoimhe’s near neighbour Richard Dunphy went in for a long sprint and held off Niall Dempsey to take third. Tomás Lacey and Kieran Dunphy were next to finish, before a thrilling sprint for 7th place between Jack Murphy and  the ever-improving David Healy. Rounding off the top 10 were Scott Bennett and a very strong Seán Donovan.

With two weeks to go, Richard Dunphy and Tomás Lacey are joint leaders with 101 points. Caoimhe Kelly is in third place with 98 points, followed by Michael O’ Loughlin on 96, Niall Dempsey on 95 and Kellie O’ Donnell on 89. Seán Hahessy has 88 points, Scott Bennett 87 and John Skehan 83. David Healy is 10th with 82 points.

Three of the top four (Richard, Caoimhe and Michael) are classmates in 5th class in Crehana National School, so we can be sure that cycling is a major topic of conversation in the playground. With 40 points for a win, any of the top ten can still win it. So, Faugheen is the place to be on the next two Monday nights an 7.15pm.
