Bobby Power’s Carrick Wheelers Challenge Sportive

By May 17, 2011 Club News

The closing date for the Carrick Wheelers Challenge Sportive in this Sunday 22nd May 2011

My father Bobby spent the last months of his life planning this sportive as Event Organiser.  Truth be told, he gave a few hundred hours this year route planning, writing safety statements, creating meeting agendas and contacting club members on the many areas involved in making his event a success.

The current President of Cycling Ireland has referred to Bobby as ‘a legend of Irish cycling’.  If you want an enjoyable way to remember  him and pay tribute to him come to Carrick-on-Suir on June 5th for the Carrick Wheelers Challenge Sportive and stay to soak up the atmosphere of the Clancy Brothers Music & Arts Festival, held in honour of Bobby’s Uncle’s the famous Clancy Brothers, on the same weekend.

Mile buíochas,

Cian.

(son of Bobby).

It was such sad news to learn of Bobby’s passing. I remember myself and Bobby were the last across to the winning break in the 85 Coast to Coast, first stage, I knew we would make it as he was a most reliable and hardworking person, glad to have raced against you and glad to have met you. Condolence to his wife and family.
