Fermoy was the venue for the Silver Pail Grand Prix yesterday. In the main race, a dozen or so riders escaped after 10 km which included Cathal McCarthy and Sam Bennett. On the fourth of the five laps, the attacking started. Cathal lost contact with the leaders as Paul Griffin and Sam put on the pressure. Griffin got the better of Sam in a close sprint with Robin Kelly third.
Martin O’ Loughlin escaped the clutches of the bunch on the last lap with local rider Michael Hennessy and Comeragh’s Conor McGrath. They passed a number of the original escapees and Martin won the gallop for sixth place.
All-Ireland Under 11 champion Michael O’ Loughlin showed his class by winning the 7km Under 12 race by a margin of no less than a minute and a half. He is pictured above receiving his trophy from Fermoy CC Chairman Ciaran O’ Connor. Second was Navan’s Joe Boyd, while Jeremy Lawlor of Kanturk was third.
Sean Hahessy made an excellent debut for the club by finishing 5th in the Under 14 race, with Dylan O’ Brien the first unplaced Under 13. Paul Flynn finished 9th in the Combined race.
