April was a quiet month for the club on the senior front, with no wins. However, the underage and vets continued to claim podium places.
Eamonn Maher made his international debut riding for the Irish junior team in the Gorey 3 Day and acquitted himself well. Rory Wyley also donned a new jersey, guesting for the host club Killorglin in Ras Mumhan. He finished 4th overall and claimed the blue jersey as first second category and veteran.
Michael Fitzgerald and John O’ Brien made the break on the final stage, finishing 3rd and 4th. Mark Power rode well all weekend, finishing 9th overall, while Martin O’ Loughlin was second vet.
The following weekend, Michael O’ Loughlin put in a powerful sprint to win in Balscadden, north Co. Dublin on the Saturday. He finished 2nd in Bellewstown on the Sunday. His father Martin went one better to win the Safelink Shield by escaping from a 4 man group on the final ascent of Cairns Hill to solo to a 10 second victory.
Onto Clonmel on Sunday 26th of April. Dylan O’ Brien became the latest winner in the club when he won the Under 14 race. Michael O’ Loughlin was again victorious in the under 12 event, while John Skehan was 2nd Under 16. Leslie O’ Donnell showed a return to form by finishing 3rd in the combined race.
