“Anything you can do, I can do better” was the theme of the penultimate round of the O’ Ceallachain’s Underage League on Monday night when last week’s winner Kellie O’ Donnell had to settle for second after a dominant display by her sister Clodagh.
Dylan Walsh was first home in the one lap event, taking over as the leader of that category ahead of Jack Hickey. Things couldn’t be closer in the three lap competition as the top 6 riders are separated by only four points.
With bright sunshine and little or no breeze, it was a perfect evening for cycling and some excellent times were recorded. Only 90 seconds separated first from last in the one lap race, with Dylan Walsh leading home Geoff Cooke, Jack Hickey, Conal O’ Sullivan and Elizabeth Moloney. Dylan now leads overall on 64 points, followed by Jack Hickey on 62 and Geoff Cooke and Elizabeth Moloney both on 51.
Clodagh O’ Donnell led from the gun in the 3 lap race, and was out of sight of the others at the finish. The next riders home were Kellie O’ Donnell, Sean O’ Reilly, Scott Bennett and Bill Brennan. This has caused a big change in the leaderboard with Kellie O’ Donnell and defending champion Scott Bennett now on top with 54 points, followed by Conal Conroy on 51, and Bill Brennan, Clodagh O’ Donnell and Michael O’ Loughlin on 50 points. Indeed, Sean Hahessy, Caoimhe Kelly and Richard Dunphy, all on 48 points can mathematically win as the winner receives 20 points.
So, it’s all to play for in Faugheen next Monday night where our sponson Neil O’ Callaghan of O’ Ceallachain’s will present the prizes. Sign on will be at 7pm, with the prize presentations immediately after the races.
